Dinghy Level One - Start Sailing

If you have never sailed before and want to learn then this is the course for you.

Run over two days our instructors will take you from the very basics up to being able to sail a single-handed or double handed dinghy. For the double handed course an instructor will be in the boat with you for the majority of the course. At the end of this course you should be able to sail a triangle ‘under instruction’ but often you will be able to do this on your own.

Course content: How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering.

REQUIREMENTS

    No assumed knowledge
    Two day course
    Min age - 16yrs
    RYA Sailing Scheme

Dinghy Level Two - Basic Skills

Try to get a bit of practice after your level 1, and then sharpen up your skills on the Level 2 course.

The Level 2 course will give you the confidence to sail on your own and introduce some new skills like man over board practice, coming alongside, and leaving/returning to shore under different wind directions. At the end of this two day course you should be able to sail on your own in light-medium winds. Again this is run over two days and at the end you receive the RYA Level 2 certificate.

Course content: Rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS

    RYA Level one
    Two day course
    Min age - 16yrs

Dinghy Level Three - Better Sailing

Hone those skills learnt in Level 1 or Level 2 and try something new.

This course has been designed to offer the opportunity for the Level 2, or equivalent sailor, to consolidate skills and try out new ones. The course aims to provide a bridge to the advanced modules and to make progress easier for those sailors wishing to progress further through the scheme and undertake Seamanship Skills as well as gain a taste of more advanced techniques. Level 3 is also designed to help build confidence as well as being a technique improver. On completion of this course the student should be ready to undertake more advanced modules and seek to improve their overall standard of sailing in slightly more challenging conditions than light airs. To enrol your sailing skills will need to be to the standard of Level 2
