Racing and Cruising
Day sail in a hired Norfolk 'something'. Hicking Broad to the bridge at Potter Heigham. Excellent and scenic (despite the height of the reeds funnelling the wind). Main river section busier than the M1 on a Friday - but I had right of way!!!!
By pure coincidence while attending Wroxham Broad Claasic rally (2022) met up with old friends in the GP14 crusing section launching from the club doing the stretch from Wroxham to Horning. Too many tall trees in this section makes for slow progress. Lots of tacking!
First visit to the Wroxham Broads SC classic rally (2017). Colourful sails - a dinghy called 'Bittens' sailing in yellow. Enterpise in blue and my GP in red. Classic Merlin rocket in white. This was never to be repeated in future visits.
Two seperate weeks - day cruising in the southern Broads first week Oulton Broad and then out off the Waveney River centre at Burgh St Peter. Cruising was tidal and difficult. Its a river therefore difficult to get anywhere with 'purpose' (no engine occasional use of oars). Interesting houses along the River Waveney. Oulton Broad empties twice a day so get your timing right!
Several other weekend visits to the Wroxham Broad Sailing Club. Interesting and very competive sailing in the biggar boats once our 'oldies' got off the water.
